Hello world! I finally got this got-dang system fully working.
With the help of Claude Sonnet 4, multiple stack exchange threads, lots of Googling, many manpages, and much stress (ow, my neck), my server is pretty much exactly where I want it.
- Reboots are handled gracefully, with all services that need it (the Minecraft server, mainly) closed before shutdown.
- The DUC for No-IP, which is what I'm currently using, as of August 12th, 2025 for my domain, is started automatically on startup.
- The Minecraft server is also started automatically on startup.
- Both the MC server and the DUC are started in detached Screen sessions, so I can access them at any time (learning about Screen has been absolutely fantastic, I love this tool).
- The tool I will be using for this blog (and used for this page) is set up! As you can (hopefully) see below, this blog was generated with bashblog.
Site plans for the (near) future:
- Find more permanent domain solution.
- Work on the formatting and figure out what kind of vibe I'm going for. Right now I'm copying my main page.
- Explore the configuration settings of bashblog and possibly modify the script to match my needs.
I think that's all for now, but expect to see this page edited as I experiment with CSS and bashblog's configuration options.
